Senators Step Up To The Cyber Plate

Several high ranking members the United States Senate are working together on legislation that is intended to address growing cyber security concerns in the United States. The bill is currently only a draft, and has not yet gone up to vote. But its existence is an indicator of the times we live in. It is an admission from the federal government that the security of the American people’s personal information is nothing to take lightly. This action comes in the wake of the Target security breach, and the ‘Heartbleed bug.’ The media fallout from those two events was too much to ignore. Two members of the Intelligence Committee, Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif) and Ranking Member Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga) are crossing party lines and working together on this draft. The success and failure of the bill itself remains to be seen. But the reality of the need for cyber security is impossible to ignore.
